1000 Days of Tukaram

1000 Days of Tukaram is a project where I post one translation of the poetry of the saints of the Marathi Bhakti Tradition every day for 1000 days. It began on 18 October 2024 and will end 1000 laters in 2027. It is optimistic, but at least I am going to try!

The translations will be posted daily on the Poetry is Protest YouTube, Facebook and Instagram pages. I have a daily broadcast on WhatsApp, To be added to that, message me on +919850404552 or click here if that is too difficult, you can also scan below.

Why am I sharing my number? Even if you like my page on instagram/youtube and other social media, I cannot really make sure that my work can reach you. The only way I can make sure it through direct communication via email. text and WhatsApp. You are welcome to follow me on my social media, but the way reach is suppressed is really depressing.

My aim for Poetry is Protest is to build a community around the content and translations so that it can have a greater impact in the social and cultural spheres and even beyond in the areas of entrepreneurship and all the way to health. For example I am developing a cultural and community center in my home town that will have Dalit, Bahujan and Adivasi communities at the core of its narrative with an aim to generate employment for members of those communities and bring them and their art forms front and center. I want to use Bhakti poetry and the spaces that I can access because of this work for driving up adoption of healthcare technologies. I also want to create publications and written works that can at least sustain the money and effort and passion of mine, as a full time professional with a family to feed, that is important.

All this is possible if I can build a community. That is not going to happen without personally getting in touch with people. Which is why I am open with sharing my personal contact details.

What happens if it gets too big? Well, that is a problem I would love to have!
